Den svenska flyginsatsen i Libyen inleddes i början av april 2011. Knappt ett dygn efter att den svenska regeringen beslutat att Försvarsmakten skulle delta landade de första svenska enheterna på Nato-basen Sigonella, på Sicilien. Sigonella var basen för de flesta svenskar som deltog i insatsen.
I insatsen ingick som mest fem Gripenplan, spanings- och stödresurser, personal för informationsoperationer och en enhet för lufttankning.
